Draftseal Limited in Glasgow & Edinburgh

Charlotte Square | Edinburgh - National Trust

This is perhaps one of the most famous examples of Scottish architect Robert Adams' Georgian style of architecture.

A recent refurbishment of numbers 26 to 31 to become the National Trust for Scotland's Head Quarters was undertaken by Edinburgh Architects Simpson and Brown with Sir Robert McAlpine as the main contractor. Draftseal Limited undertook the refurbishment of all windows and shutters including the replacement of all astragals to the front elevation.

Other properties in this famous square that Draftseal Limited have serviced and draught proofed is the Roxburghe Hotel, 5 Charlotte Square the old Trust offices, the Georgian House and finally house numbers 24 and 25.

Culzean Castle - National Trust For Scotland

This world famous property in Ayrshire owned by The National Trust for Scotland, designed by Robert Adam and built between 1777 and 1792 has had its Eisenhower suite renovated. As part of the Renovation Draftseal Limited repaired and draught proofed the sliding sash windows using the ENCAP™ system.

The castle was gifted to the Trust by the Kennedy family who asked that the top floor including the drum tower be gifted to General Eisenhower as a thank you, for his war efforts, from the people of Scotland hence the name. In addition to the window work a small fanlight was made to replicate the original which was beyond restoration.

College of Commerce | Glasgow

This is a typical example of a project where the repairs and draught proofing of steel-framed windows was undertaken. The draught proofing system employed provided a purpose made silicone gasket bonded to the window rebate.

Fraser Suites | Glasgow

A section of Glasgow's Merchant City has been totally renovated to produce a number of apartments for holiday rental. The property bounded by Albion Street, Trongate and Candleriggs has a listed facade and as such the windows had to remain as the original. As the building had lain empty for many years a number of the windows were beyond economic repair and this is where our bespoke service was used to manufacture exact replacements. All windows had the ENCAP system fitted as part of the upgrading.

Restoration and Reproduction

In many restoration projects architects and surveyors wish to retain as much of the original fabric of the building and this includes window timbers. Our skilled tradesmen make good all timber joints and patch repairs as described in the technical journals and reports issued by such authorities as Historic Scotland and architectural practices specialising in building restoration projects.

In our workshop we have both the skills and machinery to reproduce moulding details to match the existing and also a bespoke manufacturing capability to create complete windows matching the original.
